Meet with Benoit Sigouin, president

Graduated from Laval University in 1993 and member of the Ordre des Arpenteurs-Géomètres du Québec since 1994, Mr. Sigouin joined Descarreaux et Dubé in 1995 and co-founded Géoposition Arpenteurs-Géomètres Inc. back in 2009. He is currently the manager of the Val-d’Or branch.

Motivated by technological evolution, Geoposition was one of the first private companies in Quebec to use high-precision GPS technology (satellite positioning system). “Other technological devices such as the robotized total station have allowed us to improve the productivity of our work teams. “

Geoposition also innovates by using LiDAR (laser imaging detection and ranging) sensor technology with an airborne system used for ultra high resolution aerial photography. An example of the use of this technology is the “autonomous” intelligent driving assistance on vehicles which allows, among other things, to keep the same distance between two vehicles and to regulate the speed automatically.

Mr. Sigouin aims for the highest standards for his customers and makes it his mission to offer professional services adapted to their needs. For any person, the purchase of a property is often one of the biggest investments and he is proud to assist them to ensure that their rights as a property owner are respected.

He has been a member of the Val-d’Or Industrial Development Corporation since 2017 and has served as President since 2022. He also chairs the Corporation Habitation Val-d’Or and Novinor Innovation.  Furthermore, he is a member of the MRC de la Vallée-de-l’Or’s Multitechnical Committee and has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Val-d’Or Regional Airport.

He believes that the NOVINOR Innovation project will allow the territory to develop to its full potential and that of its entrepreneurs. The growth of a resource region such as Abitibi-Témiscamingue inevitably depends on its technological development and the high level of knowledge and expertise that comes with it. The educational institutions remain the reflection of this development.

He adds that “currently, the raw material extracted here is transported outside the territory for transformation. It will be to our advantage to diversify our economy through technological activities, given that we are a region that exploits natural resources.  Our industries will have to develop and implement service offers for the 2nd and 3rd transformation of these resources and benefit from the economic spin-offs. “

Jean-Yves Poitras adds:

Mr. Sigouin is one of those people dedicated to their community. Visionary and progressive, he is open to new ideas and to what can make us progress individually and collectively.  He is a passionate community man who does not hesitate to give of his time.
